Who are we?

We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to the training and use of mountain rescue search dogs to assist in the search for and rescue of missing persons, predominantly in a mountainous environment, but also in other areas where our skills may be of benefit.

All Lake District mountain rescue search dog handlers are also members of a mountain rescue team affiliated to the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association (LDSMRA) and therefore must already be competent in first aid and survival in a mountainous environment.

The Association is a registered charity which can continue to exist only because of public donations.

Latest Dog Find

31st Dec 2009

Two women reported themselves as lost in bad snow conditions - their last known confirmed position was at the summit of White Bog some two hours previously, but light was now fading and the snow conditions worsening. Penrith team and local searchdog and handler were dispatched to search routes - other SARDA dogs were en-route. The mispers were FOUND by search dog Dottie (Kaz Frith) under Cawdale Edge where snow was approaching thigh deep - they had decided to go back up hill as they believed that they were heading in the wrong direction - they were escorted from the hill, tired but unharmed.
