Who are we?

We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to the training and use of mountain rescue search dogs to assist in the search for and rescue of missing persons, predominantly in a mountainous environment, but also in other areas where our skills may be of benefit.

All Lake District mountain rescue search dog handlers are also members of a mountain rescue team affiliated to the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association (LDSMRA) and therefore must already be competent in first aid and survival in a mountainous environment.

The Association is a registered charity which can continue to exist only because of public donations.

LATEST DOG FIND

19th August 2010

Keswick MRT were asked to search for a missing 51 year old man who had been reported as overdue followig a planned walk on Blencathra. The team and local search dogs carried out an overnight search of obvious locations and the initial search was stood down at 2am with no success. At 6am Keswick team recommenced the search with additional resources from Penrith and Kirkby Stephen MRTs as well as additional searchogs from aorund Cumbria. After some hours the body of a man was found some 200m from the top of Hallsfell ridge in a steep and broken area of ground by searchdog Olly (Penny Kirby). The extrication of the man was hampered by bad ground conditions and weather, but eventually we were assisted in the evacuation by a helicopter from RAF Valley. We extend our sincere sympathies to the family of the man.
