A female walker and her 72
year old father set out on a walk from Bewcastle towards Newcastleton but veered off the route and became lost. The Team
was able to talk to the lady by mobile phone and she described her location as a threesided forest-clearing near some rocks. SARDA Dogs were tasked and a Sea King from RAF Boulmer was called to assist.
Based on the likely location, the helicopter was able to fly direct to the scene and quickly located the couple at
Christianbury Crags. They were safe and well, but ill-equipped for the thick snow and night time conditions. Furthermore, the 72 year old Father had a known heart condition and at the time was suffering from chest pains. Both walkers were airlifted to safety
and taken to Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle for checkups.
