WHO ARE WE?
All Lake District mountain rescue search dog handlers are operational members of mountain rescue teams within the Lake District - all must already be competent in first aid and survival in a mountainous environment. They choose to train a searchdog to assist the MR Teams.
LDMRSDA is proud to have one of the toughest training and assessment regimes - each handler and dog must undertake a minimum of 14 assessments (Lasting 1-4 Hrs) in mountaineous terrain and in all weathers including night time searches and severe winter conditions....only then do we consider that they are competent to be deployed on callouts ... after all, they may be deployed in hazardous terrain in all weathers.
LATEST DOG LOCATE
20th Oct 2011
A man was reported overdue after a planned walk to Green/Great Gable. Cockermouth and Keswick teams as well as dogs were searching for him. Search dog Ginny (Mik Guy) picked up a scent near the Loft Beck area and followed this for a considerable distance, when they began to hear shouts and whistles as they approached. Cockermouth Team members were then 'directed' by the handler onto the missing persons location.
